Hyperlocal Publisher Shout Out: The Blade (Toledo, OH)
by: Elizabeth Harrington, on Nov 22, 2013 in Publisher Shout Outs
We’re excited to shout out a warm welcome to new publisher partner The Blade, whose print origin dates back to December 19, 1835 — two years earlier than the official incorporation of the city it serves, Toledo, OH.
The Toledo Blade can be officially found online here, but we think their use of their brand name as an alternate domain, including a splash page that invites visitors to select the way they would like to view the content (website, mobile or subscribe to print) is worthy of note, too. What an impressive way to offer their audience a customized experience with their brand!
The Blade was named after the product Toledo, Ohio’s sister city, Toledo Spain, was best known for producing: the steel-tipped blade. The newspaper covers 14 counties in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan and their website makes information about the area accessible to the world. It is their ongoing goal to be the premier source of news and information about northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan on the World Wide Web.
We’re excited to be working with a hyperlocal website that combines a rich and storied history with such terrific attention to the digital requirements of their audience, today and into the future.
